Other means of transport in Istanbul
Though the closest means of public transport is bus - and soon metro -, you can also use other means such as ferry (arabalı vapur), steamship (vapur), sea bus (deniz otobüsü), motor boat (motor), metro (metro), funicular (füniküler/tünel), suburban trains (banliyö treni), busway (metrobüs), tram (tramvay), and public taxi (dolmuş). For sea transport, you can go to Kabataş or Beşiktaş by bus (43R). For other means, see the Rapid Transit Network map at the bottom of this page.
The major centers for transportation include Beşiktaş, Kabataş, Taksim, Zincirlikuyu, Eminönü on the European side and Kadıköy (on the Asian side).
The south campus is situated between Etiler and Bebek. The bus lines above go through Etiler. You can also use the coastal road through Bebek in order to go to Taksim, Beşiktaş or Kabataş.
No cash is accepted for public transport, except for taxi and dolmuş. For the rest, you need to buy a pre-paid transport pass. You have two options:
- You can apply for a Blue Card for 10 TL from one of the application centers (click to see) with a recent pass photo and your official ID. You will pay 185 TL for a maximum of 180 rides a month. Click here for more information.
- You can purchase an Anonymous Istanbulkart for 6 TL from one of the 2000+ IETT Counters or private vendors. You will need to load credits either from counters or by using automats. For a single trip, you will be charged 2,30TL. Click here for more information.
